Why do some women plaster their hair to their foreheads and pull the rest back into a ponytail?

This style is commonly seen by adolescent Hispanic or African American women. Yes...I'm stereotyping, but they are the only women I've seen with this ridiculous hair style!?! It make no sense!

its just a style %26amp; it works well with certain types of hair, if you don't like it you can obviously do something else with your own hair but don't go bringing down others who don't have the same taste as you do simply because its different or strange to you.

I don't know. I've seen this style also and it caught my eye the first time I noticed it.

It may be more of a cultural/style thing, just as white, black, asian, etc women tend to wear certain hair styles.

If they like it, more power to them. It's not something I'd wear, but that's my choice.

I have no idea why some people do that. But it's an old style. People used to do it a long time ago. And sometimes the hair is hard to manage so people have to make do .But I would never do that.

I won't lie and say I haven't done it, because I have!

I think it's common because of practicality.

If you have enough hair, it is easiest to put it in a ponytail because it is so thick and bothersome that's about the only thing you can do unless you get your hair done.

Also, since our hair is most times nappy, we wanted (at least my mom wanted) it to look a little neat, so she plopped on gel and hoped it would stay smooth.

Every person have his own style, some hair styles look good on certain people, others not and that style is not ridiculous I have seem many girls that make it look really good. If you don't like it, then just don't use it, but criticize and stereotyping like that just make you look more ignorant and dumb.

I wear this hair style and I am a white girl. I do live in an area with mostly African American and Hispanics but I like it. There is nothing wrong with this style. Just because you don't wear doesn't matter. It keep the shorter hairs out of your face and longer hair pulled back. It is a frequently used style so the more you do it the better it looks. It looks really col and its not only young people its older people too. The hair is stylish too some people so stop being rude and obnoxious.

i dont think its a cultural thing because im english and a lot of english people do it aswell

i dont know why they do it becaus eit looks awful

i suppose its because it may be quick and easy to do and the hair doesnt look frizzy if you dont have time to streighten it

i hate it!

xxxxxxx

Why do some women plaster their hair to their foreheads and pull the rest back into a ponytail?

it probally is practical and does not take as much time cause I think all you have to do id get some gel and smooth it down because each culture or backgrounds have different hair and it probally keeps the hair from getting poofy or frizzy so I think that's why and people on here are like getting so offensive it's yahoo answers you signed up to ANSWER people's questions gosh. But anyways I hope I helped and pick me

They like it. To each his own. Live and let live. There will always be someone with a hair style you don't like. The thing about hair is you do it to please yourself. You can please some of the people some of the time, but never everybody. Stop worrrying about it. It's not your hair.

Why do some women plaster their hair to their foreheads and pull the rest back into a ponytail?

It is not ridiculous. No more ridiculous than Emo hair, Mohawks and outrageous hair colors like pink and purple.

The reason why their hair slicked down is to control the fly aways and to keep their hair in place when they do where a ponytail. The reason why it does not make sense is that you never asked them why? I have seen that very style in magazines and on the runways, so it is not ridiculous at all. Stop stereotyping.
