I have never heard this rule; in fact, on my 20 years growing up on army bases, I saw many people braid their hair for convenience.

Black women's hair is naturally fuzzy if not treated with wax and can be an occupational health and safety issue for black women in the army because of the frizz in their eyes affecting their work....

I'm white, and I wore braids all through my childhood. I never heard anything so silly, why would the Army or anyone forbid a woman to braid their hair? Maybe it's a really old rule that needs to be modified.

I actually went into a beauty parlor to get my hair braided like alot of black women have %26amp; they told me they don't do it on white girls. Can you believe that? I'm still looking for a place because regardlss of my color I like the way it looks

If they want to braid their hair they should be allowed to - maybe the Army doesn't want them to have that ethnic look, or perhaps their trying to perserve our culture

yes i do... they don't stop black people from bleaching their hair orange in the weak attempts of trying to bleach it blonde.... so, of course white people should wear braids.

I believe that it should be acceptable. Being a Black woman I see nothing wrong with it but most white people's hair is too fine to hold a braid. If a white person's hair can hold a braid then go for it.

YAAA and I think it is TOTALLY sukky and UNFAIR!!!the marines make native women cut their hair too...like me way back when-THEN I found out they coudnt and ARENT aloowed to MAKE us cut our hair because SOME of were tradtional pow wow dancers...ever since then my hair has NEVER grown to its full length as it used to be....
