Im african american and i cant stand my hair. i just wish i had white people hair because my own is unmanageable. Today i missed school because my hair was so unmanageable. White and black people might have salson horror stories, but its because the get a bad cut, bad color, or a bad style. Those are the same things that black people deal with too. But on top of that, black people have unmanageable hair. The only way to get manageable hair is to get a damageing straightener. I cant just wash my hair and go outside, or go to the beach and let my hair get wet, without me getting a huge afro that everyone laughs at. Its also harder to get a trendy hairstyle for black people. All the black salons do hair ghetto, and the white trendy salons cant do black hair at all.

hunni, my ex-husband is white with red hair ( think of ronald mcdonald with an afro) he has gone to white and black hairdressers and neither know what to do with his hair, it is so coarse and unruly, thankfully my daughter did not inherit his mop...i feel bad for him because no one knows what to do with it, he has had it relaxed but it just does not work .....so hunni i hope this makes you feel a little bit better that a white man has the same problem...

my hair is nothing nice unless I straighten it...then it's still really frizzy and nasty. I can't take a shower and go outside either...mine poofs so bad it almost sticks straight out. It's especially bad for me because I wear no makeup and don't like to spend more than 20 minutes getting ready. That means that my hair HAS TO go in a ponytail (not a straight down ponytail but one of those that looks like a messy bun) at least 6 days a week. I'm not saying my hair is any better or worse than your's is, I'm just saying...I feel your pain.

i think you proved your point, but i have a gorgeous black friend who sews extensions into her own cornrowed hair. these extensions look natural because every time we are out partying people compliment her on her hair. maybe you should try them?

My Mom had such curly %26amp; coarse hair she had to go to "Black" beauty salons %26amp; use "Black" hair products to get it to look decent to her %26amp; one time a straightening made it all fall out!!! My Bro is the same as her!!! I got straight hair but I got alot of it %26amp; it's kinda coarse.....I've lived around black people my whole life but I do have it easier in the hair dept.

Too funny our avatars have the same do. I'm white but have your same problem. I have been to a salon one time in probably 8 years because I pretty much have an Afro in the back. My hair is wavy up front but kinky, kinky curly in the back. My sister cuts my hair because I haven't found a salon that can deal with my hair without making it worse. She takes the time to make sure it is done right after all she has to be seen in public with me.

yeah you are right about a lot of things!!! but my hair is so hard to manage sometimes. i have long blonde hair that is completely flat and i hate it. i can't just get my hair wet because it gets soo frizzy!! i have to put soo many things in my hair to get it to look good. and i can't get my hair cut because it either gets more flat, or it's too thin to do anything with and it looks like i have just one layer. i have so many hair problems, so i know exactly how you feel!! well, maybe not exactly, but almost!!

I'm very sorry. I don't much feel your pain, because I have pretty managable thick, slightly wavy blonde hair. But I do have some tips for you.

One of my best friends is african american and she is quite pretty. Most of the time her hair is up, and it looks gorgeous! It is very long and kinky curly like most african americans, but it is past her shoulders when it is natural, and a couple inches longer when straightened. Try growing out your hair and putting in a cute clip, or put it up in a really cute updo. You might also get your hair chemically straightened or a weave if you'd like too, but hair isn't the only thing that makes you beautiful.

It's too bad you feel that way about yourself. Find what works for you. All African American Salons don't specialize in "GHETTO" as you put it. And I'm not making this next statement to be rude or mean but, Love yourself and stop wishing for something that's simply not going to happen.

i used to think that too but their hair cant hold any kind of styles braids and etc. they have to wash their hair everyday or it will start to stink get oily and nasty were we can go months without washing our hair about the water situation get a perm and keep up with it

It's not a black/white issue. It sounds to me that you just aren't creative and experienced enough to style your own hair. I am black and have mid-back length hair. If you don't practice managing your own hair you never will accomplish a healthy and fashionable hair regimen. You need to describe your hair to someone or perhaps visit a professional and get hair advice that is individually for you. I'm curious to know where is your parent(s) or guardian(s)? It should be a major concern that you missed school over a hair issue.
