im black also..just went natural after realizing perm is the devil. Your natural hair will be a bit more "nappy" harder to comb and the perm will look silky/straight. to promote growth cut the ends of your hair as the perm also dies. but really unless your hair is bad dont cut anything.

first put your hair in braids.. then once u start to see the new growth you can make a choice whether u want to cut the peremd hair off or continue to grow ur hair (naturally) once it reaches a certain lenght.. since u cant even tell which part of ur hair is natural.. that means that your hair is tooo short.. like the new growth.. wait for it to grow a little more.. everyones hair (african americans/ mixed) is different.. so u never know.. my mom is black and she went natural with her hair, it grows in a zigzag patter.. she is type 4b and 4c hair.. im 3c and 3b hair.. (Im mixed with jamican and german).. anyways hope i helped!! %26lt;33333333

it should be two textures in your scalp , a part thats still straight , and a part thats "not so straight" that is the natural part , and the straight part is the relaxed part , you cut that part . I would let a stylist do it . Also , ur probably gonna lose a lot of hair , so think carefully about this

good luck in your endeavor

cut where your hair texture changes. the hair that grows form your hair is probably a different texture than the relaxed hair. you cut off all of the relaxed hair to become fully natural.

I am natural and it's nice to see you want to be natural too.

The best way to see which part is relaxed and which isn't is to wet the hair. When your hair is wet you can see the different textures. Also, ask someone else to cut for you so it's even. You cut off all the relaxed hair to right where your new growth is.

Good luck and visit nappturality.com for more tips.

The relaxed hair is straight, and easy to run your fingers through. The natural hair is more coarse, thicker, and hard to run your fingers through. The thing is if you're planning to cut off your relaxed hair, you will be cutting off basically all of your hair. This is why it is referred to as the "big cut", because you'll be starting from scratch. I also have a relaxer, and don't want anymore of the chemical in my hair, but I don't want to cut off all of my hair. So I just got a hair cut to remove the dead ends, and now I just try and take care of it better.

You can tell where the hair goes from thick to thin. When I grew my hair out naturally I used hair bands and stylish scarves to cover the new growth until I was ready to cut the perm part out. I let it grow to a workable length and had a beautician cut it into a nice style

Do not cut anything. Let the relaxer grow out. You can tell which is the natural hair is by the new growth. The new growth is not as straight as the relaxed part.
