In desperate need of the answer to....?

......how african american relaxed hair gets to be the same texture as caucasian fine hair without using an excess of grease and oils. i know it's possible although only temporary cuz i've gotten mine done like that and it was amazing because it was so much more manageable and it moved around alot. only thing is i'm not willing to pay 80 bucks a month on my hair alone. also i really want to get my hair cut off shorter 1) because it's so damaged 2) because i want a drastic change and it'll take less time to do. but the shorter hair is the less motion it gets thus resulting in it sticking out in odd directions. and i don't want that so again i ask if anyone knows how to get my hair like that and if so be as specific as possible....and don't say i should ask the ppl at the salon cuz i'm sure they wouldn't tell me cuz that means one less customer. i am desperate to know how! so please if u know do tell =]

In desperate need of the answer to....?

1) First, african american hair will never be as easy to manage as cacausian hair, but I know what you mean.

2) For you to be able to manage it at home, you need to do your own relaxer at home, including touch-ups every 6 weeks or so. Are you able to do that now? Then you would only need to go to a hair stylist for the cut. It saves a lot of money and gives you complete control over your hair. Recommended relaxers: Soft and Beautiful, Organic Root Stimulator, or Dark N Lovely. Each person has to decide which one gives the best results for their hair type.

3) To keep your hair bouncy and moving, that means no hair grease (as you know) and, after shampooing, always keeping your hair well conditioned for added moisture and shine. Any of the deep conditioners will work, but I like the Dark and Lovely (cream in a jar) or a similar heavy conditioner in a jar. Use that with a cap, and preferably a heating cap or dryer cap, for best results. If you do not already have a heating cap, it is worth it to buy one because it really makes a difference in the health of relaxed hair. Also, periodically, give yourself a hot oil treatment. Easy to do and you will get good results.

4) Daily Maintenance: After you get your hair cut, you are going to need to "wrap" your hair every night to keep it straight. This means using: a) Wrapping lotion b) Wrap strips c) and a scarf, a guy's doo-rag, or whatever else you may want to use that holds the hair down tightly to keep it flat at night.

In the morning, remove scarf and lightly comb out using a wide comb -- just a couple of times to loosen it if you are wearing it straight. Spray some sheen on it, or apply "glosser" for shine and you are ready to go. If you want to give it some volume or want some curl to it, you can style or curl it. If you get a good cut, your hair will easily fall into place after it is wrapped, so you will have some flexibility.

5) Be sure to have a good curling iron like "Gold N Hot" in case you may to lightly "bump" the ends under to make the hair look very finished. Spray small amount of Revlon's "Finisheen" to section before curling. It acts as a curling spray (trick from hairstylist).

You may want to add some hairspray, too, if the weather is wet or humid. You can spray Finisheen over your entire hair when done.
