Is it okay to wear "natural" hair to an interview?

I consider myself an African American, but I guess I've got some White ancestors because my hair is more curly than kinky.

I mean it gets dry and frizzy, but honestly most people see it and assume I'm biracial or Hispanic.

Anyhow, I have an interview this week with a prinicipal at a school where I hope to teach and I don't know if I should straighten or not.

She's an African American and the kids at the school are mostly Black or Hispanic.

It's a hassle to keep my hair straight in the summer time because heat and humidity causes it to frizz, but if it'll increase my chances of getting the job, I'd be willing to do it.

I have tackled with that same issue when I was doing interviews. I used to just staighten my hair and then schedule all my interviews in that week so I wouldn't have to continue to keep it staight because it was such a hassle, but getting up in the morning and not having to fight with my natural hair makes straightening it completely worth it.

But the most important thing is to look neat. If you have a natural style that works for you and you know that it will hold up even after the wind gets to it, then I think you'll be ok. A neat puff or even if your hair is long enough that you can put it in a bun in its natural state, I think that would be more than appropriate. Good luck...

I would say straight hair looks more proffessional. if the job is worth getting, then you really only need to straighten your hair for one day.

I think it's fine to be your natural self. The school should definately accept you. It's about qualifications, not your hair, just don't pop up with a platinum blonde mohawk! (just kiddin') Just make sure your hair is neat and presentable and you should be fine!

i think that as long as you look clean, neat, and are dresses appropriately, you can wear your hair however you want

If this is the way you are comfortable wearing it, and you plan to wear it this way during the school year, by all means go natural. I've been sucessfully hired at several jobs even though there were many other applicants, and I did it by just being myself! Be confident!

No you should not have to straighten your hair. Just because your hair is curly does not mean it doesn't look professional. (what a hassal to straighten in the heat) Another option; if its long enough, is putting it up.

Yes!!! It is perfectly ok to where your hair natural to an interview! I am " all natural", and have been that way for sometime now. I do not press my hair ever, in the summer either for the same reasons you stated. I think it would be perfectly fine to wear a natural hair style to an interview as, the way you hair grows be it curly or kinky, is a part of your ethinticity, and heritage.

Go natural, thats how you are doing to look when your hired, right?

I find that a simple french twist is the best for an interview.
