But than I have heard African Americans say that Africans are "snotty" and "think they are all that".....I am not sure what the answer is, but it does not make any sense to me either.

Firstly, just because they feel this way, doesn't mean all African Americans feel the same. Perhaps these women aren't comfortable in their own skin, so they try to make themselves feel better by alienating someone "blacker" then they are. That's my guess, but you should be careful not to generalize.

Just a guess, but it's probably the same reason that Americans of Hispanic descent who have been in this country for many generations (or any ethnic group for that matter) look down upon the freshest ones off the boat/plane/etc.
It may be that they feel somehow that the new immigrants will somehow give the whole ethnic group a "bad name", or just that they want to feel superior somehow because they got here first? Or it could even be some sort of resentment because of the past history (in that African tribes were known to participate in the slave trade) so that African-Americans who are children of slavery feel somehow betrayed by recent African immigrants who represent the children of slave traders??
Probably some of the other answers on here from African-Americans or even an inquiry to sociologists may shed additional light on this situation.

I do not know why... it may just be that they are prejudiced. Im African myself and I have experienced this from Americans (white and black) however, I have much class and confidence in myself to let that bug me. I wont be prejudice towards people of a different racial origin, but if it makes other people feel happy when they do that, then so be it. A lot of Africans I know have class, so I doubt it will affect them terribly.

That's one thing that I've had issue with growing up. I used to see kids in my neighborhood make the 'african' jokes about hair, facial features, etc.
It's disheartening as a black male, because we're descendants and there should be some pride in that.
